Puente Privacy Policy
Effective September 16, 2026
This policy explains how MyBigApps (“we”) handles information in Puente and Puente Realtime, our English–Spanish voice translators, and on this support website. Unless a section names one version, it applies to both apps. Contact us at support@mybigapps.com.
What happens when you translate
After you agree to share audio and text with OpenAI and grant microphone permission, tapping Start begins listening. The original Puente app sends speech segments directly to OpenAI to transcribe them, sends the transcript for translation, and sends the translation to generate spoken audio. These requests use your own OpenAI API key over HTTPS. MyBigApps does not operate a server that receives your conversations or API key.
Puente Realtime: while a session is active, microphone audio streams continuously to OpenAI, including pauses and background sounds. OpenAI detects speech, supplies original transcripts, and streams translated text and generated speech back to the app. You can speak while a translation plays to interrupt it. The connection uses an encrypted WebSocket and your own API key. Stop the session when you do not want audio transmitted.
Information the app uses
- Microphone audio: the audio captured while a conversation is active, including speech that interrupts playback. Puente Realtime also transmits pauses and background audio while listening.
- Text and generated audio: transcripts, translations, and synthesized speech needed to display and speak the translation.
- OpenAI API key: authenticates requests with your OpenAI account or project. OpenAI can associate usage with that account and receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address.
- Preferences: voice, speed, pause duration, and microphone sensitivity are saved locally.
In the original Puente app, connecting or replacing a key runs a short translation, speech, and transcription test using a built-in sample phrase. In Puente Realtime, it opens a session to check that OpenAI accepts the selected configuration. These checks use your API account; neither records your microphone. The Realtime connection check does not send recorded audio or request generated speech.
Storage and retention
Your key is stored in the iOS Keychain with device-only protection and is accessible to Puente while your device is unlocked. Puente does not sync the key to iCloud. Recordings, transcripts, and translations are held in app memory, with up to 100 conversation turns. They are not saved as a conversation archive. In the original Puente app, generated speech is briefly written to a protected temporary file for playback decoding, then deleted after loading. Puente Realtime buffers captured and generated audio in memory and does not create these playback files. During an active Realtime session, OpenAI also holds conversation context to generate translations. The app requests removal of older items from that session context; this does not delete provider logs. The two apps keep separate Keychain entries and local preferences. Voice preferences remain on your device until the app’s data is removed.
OpenAI handles API data under its own policies and your account settings. Its API data is not used for model training by default unless you opt in. Depending on the endpoint and account controls, OpenAI may retain content and service logs, commonly for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, with stated exceptions. The original Puente app requests no stored translation response; Puente Realtime uses a live session. Neither behavior eliminates provider logging. See OpenAI’s data controls and privacy policy for current details.
Your choices
- Tap Stop to stop listening and cancel pending work. Listening also stops when the app enters the background. Requests already delivered to OpenAI may still be processed.
- Use Clear conversation to remove the displayed conversation from memory.
- In Settings, choose Remove API key to disconnect and clear the current conversation. Reconnecting requires your agreement to share data again.
- Revoke microphone access in iOS Settings at any time.
- Revoke your API key and manage provider data through your OpenAI account. Removing a key from Puente does not delete records held by OpenAI. Remove the key in Puente before uninstalling if you want to ensure its Keychain entry is deleted.
Tracking, advertising, and other sharing
Puente includes no advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDK. We do not sell your conversation data or share it for advertising. The app does not request contacts, location, photos, or an advertising identifier. We may disclose information you send us if required by law or to protect rights and security.
Support and website visits
If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. We use it to answer your request and retain it as needed to resolve the issue and maintain necessary support records. You can ask us to delete it, subject to legal requirements. Please do not email your API key or private recordings.
This static website uses Vercel hosting and no analytics scripts or advertising cookies. Hosting and network providers may process IP addresses, request details, and security logs to deliver and protect the site under their own policies, including Vercel’s privacy policy.
Children and other participants
Puente is not directed to children under 13. You must meet the age and account requirements of your OpenAI service. Make sure other people know their speech will be sent to OpenAI before recording a conversation.
International processing and privacy requests
OpenAI and hosting providers may process data in countries other than yours. For information we hold, contact support to request access, correction, or deletion, or to exercise rights available in your location. Requests concerning OpenAI account data should also be directed to OpenAI. MyBigApps cannot access or delete your OpenAI account records.
Changes to this policy
We will update the effective date when this policy changes and provide additional notice in the app if a material change requires it.
